Note from the Director
Dear Patrons,
I’d like to thank you all for being here tonight and supporting the Santa Barbara Gay Men’s Chorus in our spring concert “Royal Family.” I was so energized by the full house and abundance of love after our winter concert, and I knew going into the spring that I wanted to push our limits and make our concert a celebration. A pillar of gay culture is Diva worship and this sparked my idea for this concert. To be named the King, Queen, Prince, or Princess of a whole genre of music is no small feat, these artists embody power, confidence, originality, resilience, and so much more. Royalty can serve as an ideal, and I think that the qualities of these great artists are worth emulating. I’d like to dedicate tonight’s concert to drag performers here in Santa Barbara and across our country as they are experiencing so much discrimination and hate, and as our community continues to fight for our rights. Even right here in our home, we are seeing protests against drag events and pride festivals. Your support here tonight means so much and I hope that we can all choose love over ignorance, love over fear, and LOVE over hate.
With my love and thanks,
Timothy Accurso
Artistic Director
